Navigating Energy Transitions Course

The Smart Grid Innovation Network Canada has partnered with it’s Member, Siemens, to offer a new course on Navigating Energy Transitions

The Navigating Energy Transitions Course will be held following SGIN’s Energy Innovation Forum Canada (EIF), to be held in Moncton from October 30-31. The day-long Course will take place on November 1, 2023.

SGIN has identified a need for a wide range of participants directly or indirectly involved in the energy transformation to improve awareness of current and near-term technologies, business cases and opportunities.

Energy systems around the world are undergoing a massive transition. Advances in technology and a push towards decarbonization of existing systems are redefining how energy markets operate. The adoption of electric vehicles, energy storage and behind the meter smart devices are changing how we produce and consume energy. This is resulting in a shift from energy as a commodity towards energy as a service. Just as the network is evolving, the way in which electrical infrastructure is designed and operated are also in need of updates. To prepare for the change SGIN is supporting professional development for energy workers.

Target Audience

Professionals such as engineers, lawyers and accountants in the energy sector will benefit from an intense, integrated discussion of all the factors now in play out to 2030. Energy policy, economic development and program advisors inside municipal, provincial, and federal departments will also benefit from the course, as would all others such as product vendors and investors with an interest in understanding where the sector is going in the near and medium term and how to adjust to the changing marketplace.

Prior technical expertise is not required as the discussion will focus on the drivers for change and the types of programs, projects and strategies required to adapt to the fast-paced energy transition.

The course will be delivered by Phillip Daoust, a Management Consultant within Siemens Canada Energy Business Advisory Team. In this role, he guides electrical utilities through Smart Grid business transformations.
