Meet Our Keynote Speaker: Søren Hermansen

Søren Hermansen was born and raised on Samsø, an island in Denmark where he has been the driving force in the transition towards 100% renewable energy for the entire island. Since 2007 the island has been self-sufficient and 100% carbon-neutral. Furthermore, the island now supplies surplus energy to Jylland, on the mainland of Denmark. In 2009 Søren was awarded the Goteborg Award, also known as ‘environmental Nobel prize’, for his work with sustainable energy on Samsø.
 
Today, Søren is leading and managing the Samsø Energy Academy, a place for learning, meeting, and networking for the future energy transition. His knowledge and experience garnered from his work with sustainable energy on Samsø earned him the honour of being named one of the world’s ‘Top 10 environmental heroes’ by TIME Magazine.
