About the Energy Innovation Forum
The first Energy Innovation Forum (EIF) occurred on April 4-5th 2017 at the Fredericton Convention Centre and was created and hosted by SGIN, which includes founders NB Power, Siemens and UNB and other supporting partners Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Opportunities NB (ONB) and Ignite Fredericton. It brought together twenty energy thought-leaders from across North America, along with regional leaders in Fredericton, to showcase the rise of renewable energy generation and storage, and how smart grid will enable these energy sources for customers and utilities. It also showcased the many benefits and opportunities that will flow from this smart energy evolution.
In fall 2018, SGIN presented the second Energy Innovation Forum, with New Brunswick laying the foundation for smart grid and smart city leadership on a global scale. The forum explored the growing digital energy space and featured energy innovators from North America and Europe. The two-day event took a deep-dive into ‘evolving energy technologies’ and encompassing ‘energy innovation in practice’ examining the developments, challenges and evolving business opportunities in the smart energy sector.
EIF Canada 2022 was based in Toronto, ON and recognized the burgeoning sector of decentralized, smart and low carbon energy need as ageing infrastructure and centralized generation can’t support the growth required, and addressed the continued demand for knowledge sharing, networking, and opportunity identification across various sectors regionally and nationally.Smart Grid Innovation Network Canada Inc. collaborated with leading national energy organizations: Marine Renewables Canada, QUEST Canada, Canadian Renewables Energy Association, Electricity Human Resources Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and The National Research Council of Canada to champion the multi-sector national forum
EIF 2023 on October 30 – 31, 2023 will continue to dive deeper into accelerating the pace of energy sector decarbonization and the opportunities unlocked by further enabling smart energy approaches. The forum will introduce attendees to industry experts, discuss emerging trends, results from national pilot projects and present a diverse range of initiatives and research that will propel Canada’s decentralized low-carbon energy sector. EIF 2023 provides tours to 3 locations tackling smart grid development and is offering a series of training sessions that help advance individual understanding and professional development.
EIF programs moving forward will spread across all provinces with local co-hosting of the events with local and national partners working with SGIN to continue to drive the knowledge and action needed to accelerate the pace of our implementations.
